Spartanburg, S.C.—Sophomore left-hander Matt Crim was named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 16. Crim is the fourth Citadel player to earn SoCon recognition this season.
The Summerville, S.C. native pitched his first career complete game shutout as The Citadel defeated Appalachian State, 17-0, on April 14. Crim held the Mountaineers to nine hits while striking out seven and walking only one in the second game of a doubleheader. After dropping the first game of the three-game set, The Citadel won the final two contests to earn their second SoCon series victory of the season.
The Citadel has had four players named either Player or Pitcher of the Week so far this year. Senior first baseman Zach Brown (Feb. 19) and freshman catcher Richard Jones (April 9) were both tabbed Player of the Week, while senior Justin Smith (March 5) garnered Pitcher of the Week recognition. The last time the Bulldogs had four players receive the honor in one season was in 2004 when The Citadel won the SoCon Tournament. The most players to be recognized in one season is seven in 1998 when the Dogs won both the regular season and the tournament crown.
