Cadet-Student-Athletes Honored at The Citadel’s Annual Awards Convocation
Charleston, S.C. – Numerous athletes were honored on Thursday in McAlister Field House at The Citadel’s annual Awards Convocation which is held conjunction with the school’s Commencement Week.
Bulldog grappler Odie Delaney received The Brigadier Foundation President’s Award, which is voted on annually by members of the graduating class. The honor recognizes a senior athlete who has contributed the most to The Citadel’s athletic program and the Corps of Cadets.
Rachael Farrell, a four-year member of the volleyball team, was honored with The Hemingway Award. The award is given to a senior who, throughout his or her cadet career, made the greatest contribution as a Christian cadet on the athletic field and to the spiritual life of the Corps of Cadets.
Several athletes were also nominated by college department heads and chosen by the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges selection committee based on:
- Strength of character and academic development
- Military achievement and leadership participation
- Leadership and excellence in cadet activities
- Participation and excellence in athletics at the varsity, intramural and club sports level
