CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel Basketball team will put its two-game winning streak on the line when they invade Carolina First Arena on Monday evening. The Bulldogs moved to 12-12 overall and 6-6 in Southern Conference action following a victory against Chattanooga on Saturday evening. The same is true for Southern Conference, and intercity rival College of Charleston, who are on the heels of a three-game winning streak that began with a 90-72 victory over Georgia Southern (Jan. 30). Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
"We are really excited and I am sure that we will be prepared in the coming days," Head Coach Ed Conroy said of his team. "We will have our hands full, but I know that our guys are going to be ready to prepare for a fun game. Offensively to slow them down we will need to be at our very best and the last time we met we were well prepared, but this time we will have to be even better because they are playing with more confidence now."
"They are deeper because everybody in the lineup is healthy and playing with confidence," Conroy added. "Because of the (Jeremy) Simmons injury, and being later in the year, other guys like (Matt) Sundberg and (Willis) Hall are all playing well right now and clicking. You can't just take one guy out on the defensive end."
It will mark the 88th meeting in the storied rivalry that dates back to 1901. The Cougars (16-8, 11-2 SoCon) hold a 47-39 edge in the all-time series, earning a 61-55 victory earlier this season.
URBANUS BURIES SEVEN TREYS: The Citadel snapped an 11-game losing streak to Chattanooga with a 68-60 victory on Saturday night at McAlister Field House. Led by Zach Urbanus' game-high 24 points and a double-double from Cameron Wells (11 points, 10 rebounds), the Bulldogs move to 12-12 overall and 6-6 in Southern Conference action. The win gives the 'Dogs back-to-back wins in conference action for the first time this season, setting the stage for Monday's meeting with the College of Charleston.
Urbanus hit 7-of-16 from 3-point range and tied a career-best which was coincidentally set against the Mocs on Dec. 1, 2007. The hot shooting Urbanus now has three 24 point outings against Chattanooga in his career. He also dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds. Wells completed the duo in the backcourt by scoring 11 points, eight from the free-throw line, and hauled down 10 rebounds (four offensive). The junior point dished out seven assists for the second time in as many games.
Teammate Austin Dahn rounded out double figure scorers with 11 points and four assists. Dahn finished the game by shooting 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Bo Holston gave The Citadel a lift off the bench with seven points, finishing a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe, to go along with nine rebounds (five offensive). As a team the Bulldogs hit 12-of-33 (36.4%) from 3-point range, marking their second straight game in double-digits (10 vs. Samford, Feb. 4). They finished 18-of-55 (32.7%) from the field and converted 20-of-29 (69.0%) from the line.
EASY STREET(ER): The Citadel's Bryan Streeter made his return to the starting rotation on Jan. 16 against SoCon foe Samford. His post presence has been key in leading the team to being 4-3 over that span. During a recent four-game stretch (Furman, Ga. Southern, Davidson, Samford), he logged 30+ minutes and notched his first career double-double in the process.

CHART BUSTERS: Junior classmates Cameron Wells, Zach Urbanus and Austin Dahn are consistently breaking marks among The Citadel's all-time best players. Here is a brief look at three distinct categories in which they rank:
Cameron Wells has scored in double figures in 22-of-24 contests during the 2009-10 season. Wells, who has 425 points in 2009-10, recently slid past Rodney McKeever's 1,358 career points by scoring eight points in the victory over Samford. He currently sits nine points behind Gary Daniels' fifth place ranking on the all-time scoring list. Wells has eclipsed the 20-point plateau on 26 different occasions during his Bulldog career, including a career-high 30 vs. Appalachian State (Feb. 12, 2009). Since the beginning of the season he has steadily moved up the charts after entering the 2009-10 campaign with 946 career points through 63 contests.
Solidifying his position among the best shooters in Bulldogs history, Zach Urbanus tied a career and season-high with seven 3-pointers against Chattanooga on Saturday. Urbanus set his career-high, also against the Mocs, on Dec. 1, 2007 when he finished with 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. He has a 10-game streak in place with at least one 3-pointer, dating back to Appalachian State (Jan. 6). Over the duration of his career, Urbanus is 214-of-493 (43.4%). He trails only Leon Bryant (46.3%) among 3-point FG Percentage Leaders in a career.
Austin Dahn has regained his starting position in The Citadel lineup, all the while making his trek up the list of all-time among 3-point shooters. Dahn hit three second half 3-pointers against Chattanooga to improve his season total to 34 in 2009-10. He has been successful on 165-of-466 career attempts (35.4%).
GOUDELOCK SHINES IN WIN OVER SAMFORD (Feb. 6): Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) scored 25 points off a career-high seven three-pointers to lead the College of Charleston men's basketball team to the 75-54 win in front of 5,031 fans at the Carolina First Arena. Charleston earned its third win in a row and its 12th straight at home.
The Cougars improved to 16-8 overall and 11-2 in the Southern Conference, while Samford dropped to 9-15 and 3-9. The 5,031 fans was the sixth highest at the arena.
21 of Goudelock's 25 points came in the second half as the Cougars built a 27-point lead on several occasions, the last coming at 11:17 off a three-pointer, by Matt Sundberg (Kennesaw, Ga.). Trey Montgomery scored 11 of his team-leading 23 points in the second half while Andy King and Josh Davis posted all of their points, seven and six respectively in the final 20 minutes, as Samford outscored the Cougars 39-36 in the second half. The Bulldogs were unable to come back from its 24-point, 39-15, half-time deficit as the Cougars kept the margin to over 20 for the entire second half.
LAST MEETING WITH THE COUGARS (Jan. 9): Despite double figure performances by Cameron Wells and Joe Wolfinger, The Citadel was unable to overcome a 13-7 run over the final 7:54 of action, falling 61-55 to rival College of Charleston. Wells finished with 14 points, while Wolfinger added 11 points, marking the only Bulldogs to reach double digits. Meanwhile, the Cougars were led by Andrew Goudelock (22 pts, 10 rebounds) and Donavan Monroe (19 pts).
The Citadel (8-8, 2-2 SoCon) had a decisive edge in bench scoring, 15-0, with solid performances by Bryan Streeter (7 pts), Daniel Eykyn (6 pts) and Austin Dahn (2 pts). The trio combined to hit 6-of-17 field goals and grab 15 rebounds, 10 on the defensive glass, in 72 minutes of action. As a unit the Bulldogs 3-point attack was handcuffed by Charleston, where they managed 3-of-18 (16.7%) in the contest. However, they hit 23-of-59 from the floor (39%) which tied the Cougars in made field goals.
Streeter anchored the paint for the Bulldogs, establishing a new career-high 10 rebounds (six defensive). Harrison DuPont chipped in seven boards to go along with his six points. Eykyn rounded out the reserves with six points.
As for the Cougars, who improve to 9-6 overall and 4-0 in Southern Conference play, Goudelock controlled the offense with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. He hauled down nine boards. Monroe, who knocked down 5-of-11 from the field, finished with a 4-of-7 night from beyond the arc. Combined the two hit 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Jeremy Simmons added to his conference lead in blocked shots with four, totaling 33 on the season. Charleston hit 23-of-50 (46%) from the floor, which included 6-of-22 from 3-point range.
