Charleston, S.C. - A total of 11 postseason accolades were awarded to Bulldog football players by Southern Conference coaches following the 2009 season, announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Ten players were named to the coaches' SoCon All-Conference team, including Andre Roberts who earned selections for both wide receiver and return specialist.

Roberts was the only Bulldog to be named to any first team, while offensive lineman Daniel DeHaven, tight end Alex Sellars, defensive lineman Terrence Reese and linebacker Jordon Gilmore were each named to the second team. The Citadel also had five freshmen named to the All-Freshman Team, including quarterbacks Miguel Starks and Tommy Edwards and running back Van Dyke Jones on offense and defensive lineman Chris Billingslea and defensive back Joseph Boateng on defense.

Roberts finished the season with 77 receptions for 792 yards and 11 carries for 77 yards. He totaled eight touchdowns, four against Presbyterian, while also totaling three kickoff returns for 66 yards and 14 punt returns for 217 to lead the SoCon and rank sixth in the nation. His all-purpose total for the 2009 season was 1,152.

DeHaven led a Bulldog offensive line that led The Citadel to an overtime against conference champions Appalachian State, a dominating performance over Furman and a come-from behind victory against Samford, each with three different quarterbacks. Sellars, who earlier in the season had almost as many touchdowns as catches, finished the year with 16 receptions for 159 yards and six touchdowns.

Gilmore led the Bulldog defense with a total of 95 tackles (49-46), two for a loss of five yards, one sack for four yards, two pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery returned for 13 yards. Reese finished second on the team in tackles for a loss with 11 for 33 yards. He recorded three sacks for a loss of 15 yards, while totaling 45 tackles on the season.

Starks earned the starting role against Furman after starter Bart Blanchard suffered a toe injury at Western Carolina. The redshirt freshman led the Bulldogs in a record-setting performance against SoCon rival Furman in his collegiate debut. The Atlanta, Ga. native completed 14-of-19 passes with no interceptions for 183 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 144 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries. His 327 yards of offense led the Bulldogs to a 38-28 victory. He tied a school single-game scoring record, while becoming the first quarterback since Jack Douglas (1992) to score four rushing touchdowns in a single-game.

Walk-on quarterback Tommy Edwards stepped in the leading role when Starks suffered an injury that kept him too off the playing field. In his first appearance late in second quarter against Samford, Edwards led the Bulldogs in a come-from-behind victory, completing 10-fof-20 passes with no interceptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He then got the starting nod at Chattanooga and Georgia Southern. He went 21-37-0 for 214 yards and three touchdowns, plus one rushing TD, against the Mocs.

Jone brought the Bulldog running game back to life after several injuries left little depth at the position. After missing the first game due to an injury of his own, Jones finished the season leading The Citadel running game with 81 carries for a net of 420 yards, an average of 5.2 yards a carry. He ran for two touchdowns, including a long of 69 yards against Appalachian State.

Billingslea earned the starting position on the defensive line in six games this season. He finished the year as the 13th leading tackler with 29 total tackles, including three-and-a-half for a loss of 15 yards, two sacks for a loss of 12 yards, one interception with an 18-yard return, two pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. Boateng, a transfer defensive back from Eastern Michigan, had an impressive collegiate debut against No. 21 North Carolina. He totaled seven tackles (5-2) and two interceptions for a return of 20 yards against the Tar Heels. He finished the season as the 10th leading tackler on the team with 40 total (26-14), four for a loss of 13 yards, three interceptions for 32 yards and two pass breakups.

Edwards and Jones have each received Freshman Player of the Week honors from the Southern Conference. Jones received the award twice during the 2009 season, while Starks earned Offensive Player of the Week after his performance against Furman and Boateng earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after his performance at UNC.
