Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Volleyball team completes the home portion of their 2009 schedule against South Carolina State on Wednesday at McAlister Field House at 7 p.m. Among the key victories at home this season are UNC Greensboro and Savannah State.

The Bulldogs (7-23), who are 3-3 over their last six matches, last week completed a difficult stretch of their schedule with home contests against College of Charleston, Georgia Southern and Davidson. In their final Southern Conference home game of the season, The Citadel Volleyball team lost a close four-game match with Davidson, 23-25, 25-17, 16-25 and 18-25. The Bulldogs were led by the combination of Tatum Jestila (12 digs, 11 kills) and Jessica Maas (10 kills). Citadel head coach Carolyn Geiger also got solid showings from Blaine McAllister (12 digs, 9 kills) and freshman Kaona Mercer, six kills.

The Citadel was unable to avenge an earlier loss to Georgia Southern, on homecoming weekend, falling in three sets 25-13, 25-21, and 25-16. Mercer, who finished with a game-high 12 kills, established a new career-high along the way, marking the second time this season in double figures. Coincidentally, she topped the team with a .455 hitting percentage. Cross-town and Southern Conference rival College of Charleston ended a season-long three game winning streak by The Citadel on Wednesday by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-15.  Leading the team with 10 kills, Jestila reached double-digits for the 16th time this season. McAllister added six, as the Bulldogs combined for 27 total kills in three sets.

Jamie Gleaton's 240 kills paces South Carolina State (13-17) on the season. Gleaton, who averages 2.29 kills per game, is a solid defender with 147 digs and blocked 46 shots. Teammate Brittany Davis leads the team with 81 blocks, and sits in second with 172 kills. Melissa Robinson (236 digs) and Lauren Harris (222 digs) pace a unit that has 1,135 digs (10.41/game). South Carolina State has won four of their last six matches, stringing together three straight wins over N.C. A&T, Norfolk State and Winston-Salem State.

The Citadel finishes the 2009 season with a pair of road contests at Wofford and Furman. The Bulldogs meet Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., followed by a match with the Paladins at 4 p.m. on the following afternoon.
