Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel wrestling squad hosted another successful Citadel Open this weekend at McAlister Field House. The freshman and sophomore tournament featured attached and unattached grapplers from all over the southeast. Five Citadel wrestlers placed in the event, three attached to The Citadel and two unattached.
Freshmen Kevin Timothy and Zane Newton were impressive in their debuts as both took second place finishes in their weight classes of 141 and 157, respectively. Timothy went 4-1 with two falls while Newton went 3-1. Sophomore David Ivashchenko also was impressive as he took fourth at 141, going 4-2 with two falls. A pair of freshmen, Cameron Childs and Giazzi Segarra, also found success in their first collegiate events, each going 3-2 in the tournament.
The unattached wrestlers in the tournament from The Citadel that found success were Dustin Paridon and Manuel Camargo. Paridon placed second at 133, going 3-1 in the tournament while Camargo placed fourth in the heavyweight division with a record of 4-2 and a fall. Freshmen Scott Edelson and J.J. Hellinger both went 3-2 while Shane Lee went 2-2 with two faults.
