Charleston, S.C. - The Citadel Basketball team welcomes Georgia Southwestern State to campus for an exhibition game that is set for 7 p.m. at McAlister Field House.
The game marks the second straight season that the two teams have paired off in an exhibition. Last season, the Bulldogs emerged victorious 69-68 in a thriller behind 29 points from Demetrius Nelson. The Bulldogs trailed for the majority of the half until a shot by Bryan Streeter would tie the game at 65-65 with 3:33 left to play. The Hurricanes tried to seal the deal with a 3-pointer by Mobley at 2:26 to give them a three point lead. A foul by Chris Rawls placed McDowell on the line for two shots. He nailed both free throws to put the Bulldogs within one, 68-67. Out of the timeout, the Bulldogs came down the court looking for the last shot. With 0:26 left in the game, Nelson hit a jumper to put the Bulldogs up, 69-68. The Hurricanes had 0:26 to take the lead, but a missed layup by Mobley gave the Bulldogs the game.

SOUTHERN CONFERENCE PRESEASON PREDICTIONS: The Bulldogs, who finished with a 15-5 record and tied for a second place finish in the SoCon last season, were selected fourth in the preseason polls this year. Ed Conroy's squad is seeking to to become the first Citadel Basketball team since 1961 to have back-to-back winning SoCon seasons. As he looks to the 2009-10 campaign, Conroy says "This is by far our most veteran team returning. We have a large group of guys familiar with our system. It has been a great fall in terms of physical, mental, and academic development. I think a lot of this can be attributed to the strong group of returners we have. Our freshman get to introduced to doing things the Citadel Way by their teammates."
