Opening Remarks

This week the two guys next to me are Biron Nabritt, a redshirt junior. Biron is a defensive back, currently the number two corner and a heavy contributor to all of our special teams. He really does a great job and has been an outstanding leader for us as well. The other is Terrell Dallas, our sophomore running back and has done a great job for us this year. Thank goodness he has been able to stay healthy and he continues to get better and better, not only as a player but in his role as a leader as well. Both of these guys do a great job in the classroom and are extremely hard workers on the field as well.

First thing I need to share with everyone is that I spoke to our equipment manager Kevin Yeager and we finally got in this morning that Tommy Edwards has a name for his jersey. So for you all that have been asking about the name on the jersey, hopefully it will be ready to go this Saturday so you can spot him.

Looking back at the game, it was a great win for us. One of the things that I was pleased with was after being down 10-0 at halftime and finding a way to come back in the second half. Guys didn't put their heads down. They got together, played with emotion, played hard and found a way to make some plays. After looking at the tape on Sunday, one of the things that was apparent to me was that we had pretty good field position for a number of reasons. I thought our special teams did a very good job of giving us excellent field position. You look first of all at Sam Keeler. We put our little formation in where we were in the field goal formation and he ended up pooching the ball and got it inside the 10-yard line twice which was so critical for us. Once again Milford Scott had a blocked punt. This guy has disrupted more punts than I have ever seen before in a season. He has a long wing span and gets up there. When you watch him on tape each week, opposing teams get a little concerned about that. The trajectory of those balls coming off the opponent's foot is a lot different. We are thankful that he has stepped up in that role and has done a good job for us. He blocked one and then there was another one that went for about a net of 15 to 20 yards that gave us great field position.

On the defense

To me the story was our defense and how well they played. Cortez Allen had those two picks. He read the quarterbacks eyes, stepped up and did a nice job of getting it back. He went out of bounds on the first one; otherwise he would have had two touchdowns for himself. That was certainly nice to see him stepping up and he has been playing steady for us all year. It is nice to see him get those turnovers. I can't say enough about the play of our defensive line. That was a very good running football team. We were able to take away that run game and that was a major goal of ours during the week. I think our defensive staff put a nice game plan together for us. It forced them to throw the football and we were able to do some things when that occurred.

On the offense

It was nice to see Tommy Edwards step up. Tommy had been getting maybe ten percent of the snaps last week and probably about two percent prior to that. He has been a guy waiting in the wings. He has been at all the quarterback meetings and all the trips traveling. He has been learning the game and understands the game plan. We really had no idea how he would react once he was put in the game. The key was that he had two big throws, two big plays. They were no easy plays. One was a throw back to our tailback with the blitz coming at him. The second was a throw to Alex Sellars in the endzone where we had the safety on the hash. Alex did a great job there and it was a nice throw.

Overall it was nice because we won two games in a row, got back to .500 and puts us closer to the goal of having a winning season.

On Wofford

Had a chance to look at Wofford yesterday and all this morning, trying to formulate a game plan for them. With our quarterback situation, we sent both Bart Blanchard and Miguel Starks in for treatment yesterday. So we had a short workout and Tommy got the reps as the quarterback. Those guys that got the treatment were in the pool swimming. Bart is a lifeguard so a little better swimmer than Miguel. Both guys are probable for Saturday. I don't know if they could practice today and how they would be. I would anticipate both of them being ready for practice tomorrow. We will see how they look. I have no idea right now. They have been doing their rehab and both of them mentally are anxious to get back on the field. Tomorrow we will figure out where they are at, figure out who gets the reps and see how affective they can be.

Wofford, as every coach will tell you prior to playing them, is a team that is very tough to prepare for. No one else in the league runs their offensive system, this is completely new. One thing we do is during the bye week our defense spends about two and a half days working on the option so that when get to this point it is at least somewhat familiar because you have such little time to prepare for an offense like there's. It will be very important for our scout team offense to duplicate the plays with the same speed as they will see on Saturday. It will help us to get off to a good start this coming Saturday. They do love to run the football, nothing has changed there and they are very good at it. Unfortunately for them, they have had injuries this year and they have had turnovers. They have moved the football extremely well and I think they are playing better and better these last couple of weeks. We watched the Appalachian State game and they scored a lot of points and moved the football extremely well. They have some young guys playing on defense but they are very well coached and present a lot of different problems.

Our guys are excited to be back at home, obviously it is Homecoming. This will be our senior's last home football game and a chance to get us over .500, not to mention that we haven't beaten Wofford since 1998.

Does Tommy's situation change based on his performance?

Yes it does. We now know that we have a viable guy that can get it done. Bart has experience, Miguel has some experience. If those two are healthy they are going to have the opportunity to do what they can do, especially in a game like this against Wofford where they do some different things from a defensive standpoint. We have those experience guys, but if they are not healthy or able then obviously Tommy will be ready to go.

If both Miguel and Bart are both healthy how do you make that decision?

Good question. I think we are going to have determined who is physically better and in terms of the game plan see what packages will work best against what Wofford does. The good thing is that we have had both of those guys in different packages. If they both are healthy, I would anticipate both of them having the chance to play based on the package and what our opponent does.

The consistency of the offensive line

We didn't move the ball well in that first quarter; they did a very good job against us up front.  The second half we came back, starting picking up the twist a little better and picked up their movements a little better.

Quote from Biron Nabritt on the mindset of the defense

My coaching staff does a great job of preparing us week in and week out. Our confidence is pretty high right now but we are just going to stay humble and be ready to play every Saturday just like we have been.

Which is more important beating Wofford for the first time since you have been here or winning homecoming?

Just getting one more win is the most important, it doesn't matter who we are playing.

Quote from Terrell Dallas on hearing people talk about beating Wofford

I believe the fans and everyone understands what we are trying to do and what we are trying to accomplish. I think since they know we are trying to get the win, they know that we are preparing hard for them. No one really teases us about not beating them or having beat them in 10 years, they know the goal is to beat them.
